First legit meal in Basel

First legit meal in Basel

Homeless no more!

So basically I got screwed over in housing in Basel. This guy I had been in contact with for an apartment turned out to not exist in the Swiss Police system. That being said, we were searching frantically for housing in Basel and we somehow stumbled upon a beeyootiful fully furnished apartment. Thank god.

Last day in the hostel!

All moved in

I think this is even bigger than my room back home..

This sweet lady here is Hanna, derived from Johanna. I met her while staying at the youth hostel. She’s a German illustrator/painter from Hanover who came to Basel to research Johanna Spyri, author of the Heidi children books. Hanna was the one who showed me the fountains and she told me that you can drink from them because “Swiss water from the ground is the best”. She also believes that Basel is a very spiritual place due its location right next to the Rhein. There’s something about the current and the river uniting three countries that adds to this place.

Took a trip to the Schule für Gestaltung (The Basel School of Design). It’s a part of the University of Applied Sciences/Northwestern Switzerland so this campus includes a ton of other majors. I’m just glad all the buildings match.

First meal in Switzerland! Surprisingly, there are a ton of Italian joints around here. Food’s expensive though, but that was expected. This here cost 17CHF, roughly round $17.

Explored a lot of Basel on Sunday. I can’t get enough of the architecture.

There was a marathon happening in the center of Old Town.

There’s staircases like these everywhere. I walked up every one I could find, hoping to run into some broomstick shop or magic doorway.

Ain’t no papyrus here

Everything’s so tastefully ornate

The Basel Münster, a gorgeous church that is also a museum. If you walk up to the tower, you get a view of the entire city. Unfortunately it’s closed for renovations but hopefully they’ll be done before I leave.

Came back afterwards and sat and sketched on the Rhein for a couple hours. Did I mention that the weather is also awesome? Sunny with the high of 75, my kind of perfect day.

The Rhein. On the left is Old Basel, where I’m staying. After walking around, you can definitely tell the difference, especially in the architecture.

Beautiful Basel

They don’t make em like this anymore

Frankfurt sunrise

Ze hostel is pretty schnazzy. It’s really environmentally friendly, with automatic lights and timed showers.

The hostel’s right next to the Rhein, so there’s all these little canals between the buildings. I feel like I could be in Italy.

Baller windows

There are fountains like this everywhere.
