As we embarked on our journey as two female travelers, we were met with concerns regarding our safety and well-being. And this was even as we were traveling as a pair — we hadn’t even entertained the idea of a solo trip. To be physically free in the world but simultaneously be limited by the looming threat of potential danger was frustrating, to say the least. We met tons of male travelers, some even hitchhiking the whole way and I couldn’t help but think that sometimes being a guy in certain situations was just easier.
This is a great article, definitely thought provoking. My hope is that one day, these fears can diminish. Where you would be able to travel to any and every country you so desired, to share and embrace cultures and their people. Where we can find common ground through humanity — that when you strip it down to the bare bones, we are all simply human beings first and foremost.
